Karen’s Top Five Yum List Meals of 2024
As 2024 comes to a close, I am eternally grateful for my food adventures with The Yum List. Gaining new perspectives from chefs and their teams around Kuala Lumpur and witnessing their talent and innovation has been really special. Here are my top five Yum List meals for the year.
Karen’s Top Five Yum List Meals of 2024
Coast by Kayra – Everything was delicious. Before this meal, I wasn’t so familiar with Keralan cuisine, but I couldn’t stop sopping up every sauce and curry that came our way. Chefs Meriam and Sabeel bring such a fun twist to traditional South Indian dishes, and the Kerala Fish Curry is worth the trip alone. It’s definitely a classy spot to go to with a group, so you can try more.
Upper House KL – This is one of the best hidden rooftop spots in Chinatown. Excellent cocktails – particularly Jo’s Paradise, in my opinion. They have modern, creative takes on the classic Chinese dishes of Petaling Street. It’s the perfect spot to go for a sunset dinner or just drinks out on the verandah.
Nadodi – It is not a place I usually go to based on its price point, but I am so thankful that I got a chance to go with Monica! It really did feel like a nomadic adventure throughout Sri Lanka and Southern India. The amount of precision and detail that goes into each course is remarkable, and I won’t forget (probably my favourite bite of 2024) the smoky uttapam topped with lobster, caviar and micro greens. Definitely a showstopper of a restaurant to take any out-of-town guests or foodie friends!
Carbon KL – We had such a good time getting to know the team at Carbon KL and their passion for meat. Take a spot at their bar with a view up close and centre of their open-fire kitchen if you’d like the feeling of being on an exciting cooking show – it really does give off ‘Top Chef’ vibes. My favourite was their Signature Aged Duck dish, but really, all of their protein dishes were fantastic.
JustGood Private Dining – With JustGood Private Dining, you have the possibility of having a private chef cook you up a five-star meal in the comfort of your own home. That’s hard to beat for a stress-free dinner that really wows guests. Chef Malcolm and his team will work to create a curated menu based on your own style and palate. We really enjoyed all the colours, flavours, and textures they managed to incorporate in each dish, as well as the spectacular Batu Caves views from their office.
