Dermique – Cosmeceutical Company Malaysia
Monica Tindall
While I’m not yet ready to jump in and declare that aging is fun, I am ever so grateful for the privilege to do so in this day and age. Never before has there been so much research on skincare and science-based products to suit multiple skin needs. These days, products are tailored not just to different complexions but to diverse needs within one individual, too!
So, my skin story evolves… I turned 50 and suddenly got pimples and developed allergies! These dramas are on top of what you’d expect with age, such as fine lines, dehydration and other woes. While I attempt to tackle the latter, the former dilemmas won’t allow for products that are too harsh. Hence, I turn to the team behind Dermique, a Malaysian (yay!) cosmeceutical company, for guidance.
Dermique Malaysia
The Malaysian cosmeceutical company Dermique was founded just over a decade ago by Vincy Chan, Phyllis Chin and Swen. The founders set out to revolutionise skin care by using advanced medical technology to address various skin concerns. Products that target acne, hydration, brightening and anti-aging are found in Dermique’s range. Besides a comprehensive skincare collection, they also have numerous outlets around the country that provide facials individualised for every customer’s needs.
Malaysian Skincare Products
As mentioned earlier, tiny little white head pimples and sensitive skin are some new issues that have arrived with age. I’m not going down without a fight, so I am eager to enlist Dermique’s assistance in an attempt to tackle some of these issues.
Make Up Remover Lotion 200ml (RM 226)
One piece of advice I received recently regarding pimple prevention is to double cleanse: the first time using a make-up remover and the second with a cleanser. Dermique’s Make-Up Remover Lotion gently dissolves the light-tinted sunscreen I wear and removes impurities without overdrying my skin. With its plant-based formulation, it’s ideal for sensitive skin.
Gel Cleanser 130ml (RM 216)
Once my make-up is removed, I follow up with Dermique’s Gel Cleanser. The second round of cleaning draws out impurities, excess oil and pollutants. I find I only need a drop of this with a splash of water, and it spreads easily across my face. I rub it in with small circular motions before rinsing it off with water. The enzymatic action of apple cell culture helps my complexion feel energised and fresh while maintaining its delicate balance.
Exfoliant 50g (RM 216)
A couple of times a week, I include Dermique’s Exfoliant into my routine. The concentrated enzyme action of pineapple stem extract effectively removes impurities and dead cells without inflaming my sensitive skin. Whereas I use a dot of water with the gel cleanser, I find the exfoliant is best applied to a dry face.
Calming Toner 130ml (RM 206)
Toner is essential in managing my tiny pimples, but I’ve found several that I’ve tried in the past are too harsh, causing light irritation and redness. Dermique’s Calming Toner is milder in nature, refreshing the skin and balancing pH levels. The toner assists in minimising pores but is, at the same time, calming and soothing.
Glow Booster 10ml (RM 289)
After applying toner at night, I use the Glow Booster on the less delicate areas of my face, mostly my cheeks, forehead, and neck, being careful to avoid sensitive eye areas. Mandelic and Lactobionic Acid actively remove dead skin cells, while Hawthorn and Pearl Barley hydrate, creating an attractive glow. As this one is so powerful, it’s recommended to do a skin test before applying it to the whole face.
Defense Emulsion 30ml (RM 366)
While I’ve tried a lot of products over the years, Dermique’s Defense Emulsion is a first for me. It’s designed especially for sensitive skin, so I’m excited to give it a go. The intensive repair emulsion provides a barrier between the skin and irritants such as UV, temperature and pollution. Essentially, it protects your skin from the damage day-to-day living can cause. The protective barrier keeps moisture within and harms out. Superstar ingredients like Centella Asiatica, Niacinamide B3, Panthenol B5, Lecithin, Vitamin E, Hyaluronic Acid and Trehalose provide a star-studded line-up.
(Sos Calming) Repairing Hydrogel Treatment Masque 10pcs (RM 388)
Once a week, I like to take a few minutes to myself and relax with the SOS calming masque. You don’t really need to lie around for 20 minutes (you can easily carry on indoors with the mask on), but I appreciate the excuse to take a break and a moment of rest. The mask delivers a concentrated surge of hydration using three key ingredients. Calendula Officinalis Extract prevents bacterial growth and relieves redness and acute sensitivity. Euphrasia Officinalis Extract is rich in vitamins and polyphenols, with high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract has an antiseptic effect and is very useful in treating seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, acne and allergies.
I regularly have medical facials using technology that results in some downtime before optimal results are seen. I found these masks particularly useful in lessening discomfort post-procedure and reducing recovery time.
Hydro Boost 30ml (RM 236)
Dermique’s Hydro Boost cream has “patented, clinically-proven earth-source renewing energies,” said to profoundly hydrate and brighten dull skin. The powerful combo of Vitamin E and Sodium Hyaluronate is said to stimulate collagen production and skin renewal. The Hydro Boost is most effective after essence or serum has been applied and should be used on the entire face and neck. It goes on cool and creamy and seems to really penetrate the skin without feeling overweighted or sticky. My skin feels dewy after application.
Precious Caviar Eye Intense 15ml (RM 266)
While the Precious Caviar Eye Intense sounds as though it is solely for the eyes, it’s also useful in restoring the nutrition of the lips. I give it a go on my lips and find it super nourishing.
Advanced UV Protective Nude 02 30ml (RM 326)
The final step in my daily routine is the application of Advanced UV Protective Nude. For someone who avoids heavy make-up but still appreciates some light coverage, it’s the perfect combo. The sunblock feels thick and protective, yet light at the same time, while a pale tint helps smooth out imperfections – just what I need for the red marks I’ve left from no self-control squeezing white heads.
Dermique Review
Admittedly, I’ve only been using Dermique’s products for just over a week. However, the results have been great so far. I haven’t experienced any breakouts or additional sensitivity. In fact, several of the products have soothed my skin rather than irritated it. It’s just what I need right now. However, I’m also encouraged by the extensiveness of the range, knowing that as my needs change, there are options to cater for them.
