Benjamin Kreuz – General Manager, Luxury Resorts
In this interview, Benjamin Kreuz, former General Manager of Six Senses Ninh Van Bay, shares some insight into hospitality as a career.
What do you do?
I am a General Manager, previously at Six Senses Ninh Van Bay.
How did you get into the industry?
During my studies in Business Administration, I took a break to work at a famous hotel in London. The General Manager there inspired and mentored me to stay on and continue my career in the industry.
Share with us a story from behind the scenes.
Openings, renovations, or intensive projects are tough work but also endless fun. During an opening, I lost a bet against my boss on the opening date—my bet was that the project would never be ready on time. I cannot tell you how wrong I was, proven by the amazing teamwork of everyone at the time.
What food memory from your childhood or travels stands out?
There can only be one restaurant – “Le Moissonier” in my hometown, Cologne, Germany.
What’s the best/ worst part of your job?
The best: working with so many different people. There is no worst!
What’s one of your favourite food and beverage pairings?
“Kölsch” with “Himmel un ääd”. Apologies, you may have to Google this one! (Of course, from Cologne!)
What’s one of the wildest things you’ve seen behind the scenes?
What happens behind the scenes stays behind the scenes!
The perfect day off would be…
In a timely order: Breakfast – Diving – Cooking – Dinner with my wife!
A day in the life of Benjamin Kreuz is…
fast, accelerating, fun, inspiring, humbling – simply great!
What does Benjamin Kreuz do for fun?
Exploring new places, diving, running, and doing all kinds of sports with a bat, including tennis and badminton, can be enjoyed on the property.
What would you like guests to know about Six Senses?
Six Senses does things differently—the additional commitment to hosts (team members), communities, and the environment is truly inspiring.
How have you grown in your profession? What have you learned from your start in the industry until now? Are there any misconceptions?
Over the years, I have developed a lot of patience, and I am still doing so. Working with different cultures and perspectives helps me see things differently.
What do you want people to know about being a General Manager as a profession?
It is very rewarding and fun—at times, almost like a vocation. The role requires commitment and often long hours, all with the aim of leaving our guests with magical memories.
What’s your view on the hospitality scene in Nha Trang?
It is an exciting place to be. You can feel the energy in the city, yet it is possibly one of the most relaxed in Vietnam. There are beautiful beaches with gorgeous walks and mountain areas with lots of options for hiking and discovering the jungles.
What practices do you currently implement or hope to implement to work towards social responsibility and sustainability in the future?
Creating strong awareness, educating others, and winning them over to the cause is essential, as alone, we have no chance to make an impact. Inspiring others to do more and more is how we can achieve a sustainable future for younger generations.
What can guests look forward to in the upcoming months?
Our festive program of events and activities has just been finalised, so Christmas and New Year’s will be filled with festive fun.
