Bangkok Trading Post Bistro & Bar

I love an all-day brunch, and it’s even better when it’s served in a pretty green space. Bangkok Trading Post Bistro & Bar on Sukhumvit Soi 39 not only delivers a fab menu of Western comfort food (and great coffee) but also does so in a light, bright indoor setting with an adjoining pet-friendly garden patio that’s highly appealing early morning and late afternoon.
The glass box is cool even in the middle of the day, with strong air-conditioning and a border of greenery. Cream and grey marble are complemented by rich wood panelling and leather chairs. The high ceilings create a sense of luxury, and the dried flower bouquets, books, and small antique pieces give warmth to the setting. Outdoors, picnic tables are shaded by umbrellas and tall trees. A water feature cools the area, and even at midday, tables are occupied by furry friends and their owners.
Bangkok Trading Post Bistro & Bar Menu
Light Lunch
Service is fast, and errors are reduced, even with my non-existent Thai, thanks to an iPad menu with pictures and English descriptions. Although, most staff speak English so communication is not a problem.
Meals include a complimentary slice of focaccia presented creatively in a dim sum basket with balsamic vinegar and olive oil on the side.
From the lunch menu, Tomatoes, Figs, and Burrata Cheese Salad both looks and sounds delicious. Who doesn’t love fresh figs and creamy cheese? The plate is centred with a mound of the prized semisoft Italian specialty made with mozzarella and cream. Vibrant cherry tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, figs, artichokes, rocket, black and green olives, pesto sauce, and balsamic reduction break the white canvas, adding flavour and texture to the dairy. This is one loaded salad.
Bangkok Trading Post’s Pumpkin Soup is a brilliant spring yellow crossed with a honey pumpkin seed cracker and sprinkled with toasted pumpkin seeds. It’s creamy and very soothing. I use a piece of the herbed focaccia to scrape the last drops from the side of my bowl.
Local
Alongside predominantly Western recipes, Bangkok Trading Post Bistro & Bar also provides a handful of local dishes. Phad Thai Goong is a generous bowl of the famous stir-fried noodles. There’s a large pink and white prawn on top, and the tamarind sauce has a nice sweet and sour finish. Plump bean sprouts, egg, spring onions and tiny tofu slices are sprinkled through. On the side, there are small piles of chilli flakes, sugar and crushed peanuts so you can make the flavour profile perfect for you. Avoid spending too long taking photos of the dish, as it’s best eaten hot.
Drinks
Bangkok Trading Post has a wide range of beverages to quench your thirst. I’m partial to the healthy options and caffeine. Original Kombucha, made with green and Assam black teas, is light and easy to drink. Its mild effervescence is very refreshing. There’s an assortment of healthy shots, too. My Gut Ease gives me a boost with ginger, apple, watergrass, lemon, and butterfly pea all in one glass.
Coffee
Bangkok Trading Post Bistro & Bar’s coffee menu proudly sources specialty beans from Thailand’s north, supporting local communities and offering a darn good brew. I enjoy the Smooth Criminal blend in a Latte, a combo of medium-roast beans from Thailand, Laos and Brazil, delivering brown sugar and berry notes with complex acidity. The Local Fruit Bomb is ideal as a Cold Brew, allowing flavours of intense strawberry, rhubarb and apple sauce to shine through in the light roast of 100% local beans from Mae Daet Noi, Khun Chang Kian and Doi Saket provinces.
Bangkok Trading Post Review
The green, naturally lit setting is reason enough to return to Bangkok Trading Post. However, the pet-friendly patio, lovely service, and solid Western menu are just as compelling. It’s a very pleasant find in Sukhumvit.
Reasons to visit Bangkok Trading Post Bistro & Bar: pet-friendly; pretty green outdoor patio; light, bright and welcoming indoor seating; appealing menu of all-day-dining western dishes; great coffee.
