Potato Head Suites & Studios, Bali – Luxury Beachside Accommodation in Seminyak
Monica Tindall
You likely know Potato Head Beach Club in Seminyak—the party hotspot with a conscience, leading the fight against plastic pollution to the soundtrack of the hottest DJs from across the globe. But did you know Desa Potato Head also offers incredible accommodation right next door? Desa Potato Head Studios & Suites is a stellar choice for those seeking a luxurious stay with a sustainable edge.
Potato Head Suites & Studios
Desa Potato Head offers both studios and suites. While both are highly recommended, the suites are a great choice if you want a more luxurious experience and a bit more space. The Island Suite, extending over 82 sqm, is our digs for three days (and, oh gosh, we wish we could stay longer.)
Suites at Desa Potato Head Bali blend luxury and sustainability. They feature handpicked teak furniture, naturally dyed linens, and a private balcony overlooking the pool. The layout is well-thought-out, including a bathroom fully opened or separated from the bedroom with solid sliding doors. The walk-in closet at the back keeps the space tidy, with our clothes and bags neatly tucked away. The study bench and lounge with coffee table give us several places to work (although, under the fan on the daybed on the balcony is also a popular option). And, then, there’s the bar!
The suite’s “mini-bar” is not very “mini.” Instead, it’s a whole refreshment centre. The long bench has a built-in mini fridge, a sink for convenience, and a built-in ice tray. It’s loaded with more than just the basics – Balinese coffee, tea, and gourmet cookies are joined by house-infused liquors, bar tools for crafting our own cocktails, and natural syrups. Award-winning mixologist Dre Masso curates this impressive selection. We barely touch it all – a great reason to consider extending our stay!
Sustainability extends to every detail. Sensatia Botanicals provides all-natural bath products, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and bath salts. A custom Bali-inspired scent fills the room through a reed diffuser crafted by Gaya Ceramic and Design. Vintage books sourced from across Indonesia add character to the suite. The turn-down service surprises us at night with healthy gourmet bites and biodegradable bamboo slippers.

Breakfast at Desa Potato Head Studios & Suites
Guests can enjoy breakfast at Tanaman, the property’s vegetarian restaurant, go full bacon at the open-walled Beach Front Studio, or dine on a compact western menu at the Beach Club. The Beachfront Studio is the most popular location with its pool, seaside seating, and comprehensive menu, including Indonesian and Western choices. However, getting a seat with sea views is easier at the Beach Club and the vegetarian Tanaman is never hard to find a spot.
Tanaman – Vegetarian Restaurant Seminyak
My idea of heaven is the full plant-based spread at Tanaman, Desa Potato Head Studios & Suites. It’s an unlimited ala carte menu filled with everything I love. All recipes, including the drinks, are brimming with a diversity of wholesome ingredients. To begin, there are jamu shots (Balinese health elixirs), nutritious smoothies, turmeric lattes, slow-pressed veg and fruit juices, local coffee, and dairy-free alternatives of coconut, soy, almond and oat milk.
I love the green rice bowl with heritage brown rice, moringa, smokey coconut, green veg, avocado and soft egg. Mix it all together, and it’s a delightful medley of textures in the mouth. The mushroom banh xeo is also delicious. It is a savoury rice flour turmeric pancake folded with shimeji and oyster mushrooms and has a tangle of greens. On the sweeter side, sourdough pancakes with caramelised banana, fruit, whipped coconut and Chef Yudi’s juruh (coconut sugar syrup) are a hit with hubby, and I appreciate the unique crunchy granola made with tempeh, cashew and kenari nuts, preserved rosella, fruit and coconut yoghurt.
Beach Club
While I could happily dine daily at Tanaman restaurant forevermore, there’s something enticing about mixing things up. One morning, we decide to indulge in breakfast at the Beach Club. Unlike Tanaman’s over-the-top nutritious menu, the Beach Club offers a different kind of luxury: a stunning location. Comfy beach beds and umbrellas are neatly arranged, all facing the sea. We savour our meal to thundering waves crashing against the shore.
I opt for the Emerald smoothie bowl, a vibrant mix of spirulina, kale, banana, pineapple, and homemade granola for breakfast. It’s a little on the sweet side but still refreshing. I also enjoy blistered cherry tomato toast with balsamic pearls and creamy stracciatella. Caning says the Desa Benedict is a hit with its unique spicy capsicum hollandaise, crispy bacon (he’s eating a lot of that on this trip), and grated parmesan on an English muffin. The hearty skillet of baked eggs simmering in a rich tomato sauce is flawless with the crusty, chewy, fantastic slices of house-made sourdough.
More Food & Beverage Options
Guests staying at Desa Potato Head Studios & Suites have diverse dining options. As repeatedly mentioned, we only dream of staying longer to fully experience all the creative village has to offer. We made it to Potato Head Beach Club on a previous visit, so if you want an in-depth look at their delicious poolside fare, take a look at our piece on the Potato Head Beach Club menu here. We also had a fantastic evening at Dome, a natural food and wine restaurant. Find our full review of Dome’s menu here. We’re particularly excited to discover the unknown flavours of Indonesia at Kaum Restaurant next time, and the fresh local seafood at Ijen Restaurant is definitely on our list to try.
Facilities
We’re equally eager (but time-poor) to explore the array of Desa Potato Head Studios & Suites guest facilities. The resort houses three inviting infinity pools, with one shared with the Beach Club and two reserved exclusively for in-house guests.
A well-equipped gym is available for fitness enthusiasts. However, a run along the scenic beach might be more appealing if you prefer a brighter and less crowded environment. The advanced equipment might be tricky for the casual user to navigate.
On the other hand, the resort has a comprehensive itinerary of daily complimentary classes, including boxing, yoga, and more. For those seeking creative experiences, workshops range from art and music to jamu making, dance therapy, upcycling, meditation, and even cocktail masterclasses.
