Element by Westin KL in the heart of the city is an excellent choice as a long stay hotel in Kuala Lumpur and is also suitable for a few days’ getaway at a cost-effective price. We spend a weekend in a suite and find such joy in the clean, green surrounds that we’d visit again in a heartbeat.

Location

The location is convenient with the LRT a two-minute walk away, the Petronas Towers an easy stroll and fantastic dining options in Troika Sky Dining found directly across the road. Intermark Mall is a hop-skip and a jump away and KLCC park is a short jog up the road. Some of our favourite coffee is also within walking distance at RaFt, Brew & Bread and The Optimist. Housed in the same building, Ilham Gallery runs exhibitions showcasing local artists – it’s well worth dropping by.

Suite

In what might be more comfortable than our own apartment, a suite at Element by Westin is a contemporary piece of luxury for a weekend. I can see why the hotel is popular with guests for longer hotel stays in KL and for those with families. Everything is just so convenient.

The entry sees a kitchenette equipped with sufficient facilities suitable for the person who sees heating things up in the microwave as cooking all the way up to the home gourmet. With dual induction cooktops, microwave, toaster, kettle, espresso maker (Café Richards), a decently-sized fridge, dishwasher, sink, pots, pans, crockery and cutlery, a whole assortment of meals could be created here. Additionally, a laundry for community use (RM10 per load) and the generosity of space make the suite a very comfortable option for extended periods. Get a two or three-bedroom suite for an in-room washing machine. Plenty of electrical outlets are also well-noted.

Worth a special mention is the water filter pumping out a high-quality stream of drinking water (most likely better than what is found in bottles) eliminating the need for plastic. The building itself, Ilham Tower, is Green Building Index certified with a range of environmentally responsible practices implemented in its construction and operations. Bath products with organic ingredients in refillable pumps are superb quality and another example of systems to reduce environmental impact.

High ceilings gift the luxury of spaciousness and floor-to-ceiling windows further enhance the sense of freedom. Separate living area, spa-styled bathroom and bedroom can be closed off with sliding doors meaning the use of one does not disturb the peace of the other. Thick blackout curtains facilitate sleeping in and the Heavenly® bed is a proven slumber-inducer.

TRACE Restaurant & Bar

While you might consider staying in and cooking meals in your suite, TRACE Restaurant & Bar does offer wonderful views. Asian dishes are the highlights here and their afternoon tea must be the best deal in town.

The “Arteastry” Hi-Tea set is priced at RM100 nett for two people. Cold savouries, hot savouries, sweets, tea, artistic sugar-bomb table-side-plated finale and stunning cityscape views from the 40th floor is a steal! Most afternoon teas in hotels around the city are a minimum of RM100 PER person and provide much less than what is served here. Available Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays, TRACE’s afternoon tea runs from 1 pm until 4 pm.

Alternatively, for a special occasion, you might arrange to spoil a loved one with in-room dining. Arranged ahead of time, you can hire a chef to present a dining experience in your suite. We get entertained with a short cooking demo and then are left with a splendid feast of Asian recipes to enjoy at our own leisure. The meal is delicious and something we’d definitely consider again.

Ombak Swimming Pool

Although you might consider sheltering in your suite for a weekend, for longer stays in Kuala Lumpur you’d want some fitness facilities to keep active, right? Element by Westin Kuala Lumpur embraces the wellness concept and has a pool, gym and bikes to keep you moving.

I, for one, am rather fond of the new regulations limiting crowds and forcing reservations. My introvert self loves quiet and calmer spaces and I am happy to reserve a time to spend by the pool. Current SOPs restrict its use to two families or a maximum of eight people at a time for up to 45 minutes per session. Furthermore, the pool is saline, reducing the need for harsh chemicals and proving gentler on the skin, eyes, hair and swimwear. With a reduced number of guests, I have the pool to myself and feel like a movie star doing laps in the gently heated water with the space occupied solely by me.

Motion Fitness Centre

While the gymnasium doesn’t require pre-registration, it is limited to five gym-goers at a time. With lowered occupancy, this is not a problem on the two occasions I visit and, again, I find myself the one in attendance. Overlooking the Ampang hills, it’s an especially motivating morning to be exercising at sunrise as the day breaks over the ridge.

Bikes to Borrow

Furthermore, Element by Westing KL has a Bikes to Borrow program. The bicycles could offer a fun way to explore the city on the weekend or be a green form of transport for those on a long hotel stay in Kuala Lumpur.

Long Stay Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Element by Westin is an excellent choice for a long stay hotel in Kuala Lumpur but also makes a fun staycay for a few days. Good food, good sleep, staying active and an eco-philosophy are a brilliant combo giving an overarching concept of wellbeing and comfort.

  1. The Hi-Tea set priced at RM100 nett for two people is definitely very affordable. I wish I could fly now – not keen on having to go through the test and the quarantine upon coming back – that is why I’m staying home.
