6 of the Best Seafood Restaurants in KL

Monica Tindall

It’s no secret that Malaysians as a group are some of the largest seafood eaters in the world. Hence, it also comes as no surprise that seafood restaurants are popular. While kitchens set to satisfy your seafood cravings are in abundance, few tick all of The Yum List boxes by offering a well-prepared menu, good drinks list, stylish setting and friendly service. Fortunately for you, we’ve done the research, tried ‘em out and found six establishments deserving of a mention. Please enjoy our list of what we personally consider the:

Cielo KL

Not only does Cielo KL boast vibrant rooftop views, attentive service and an excellent drinks list but so too does it serve some of the freshest seafood in the city. Using the Japanese CAS (Cells Alive System), where seafood is snap frozen to maintain its freshness, every dish tastes as if it’s straight from the ocean. Must-tries here are a platter of mixed oysters with a glass of bubbly, pan-seared scallops, and mussels in a fantastic white wine and cream sauce.

Southern Rock Seafood

You can’t go wrong when the restaurant you’re eating in is also actually the supplier for many of the upmarket seafood restaurants in the city. The casual coastal-like setting is highly appealing but the Legendary Laksa Mussels, arguably one of the best Fish n’ Chips in the city, and seasonal fish roasted in the Bertha oven are the real drawcards. A compact list of carefully chosen wines makes pairing a no-brainer.

Bucked Out Seafood Market Gobo Chit Chat

The highlight of the seafood buffet at Gobo Chit Chat is the live cooking station. Grab your metal bucket, fill it high with your favourite shellfish and crustaceans and wait at your table until the fishmonger dumps it all in one magnificent spillage onto the metal tray on your table – nothing like a little bit of eatertainment, right?

Fisherman’s Cove

Think Boston lobster, freshly shucked oysters and a whole bunch of hot and cold seafood served in what appears to be an upscale fisherman’s shack and you’ve imagined Fisherman’s Cove. With a direct look into the open kitchen, you can be assured everything served is cooked upon order, and, despite its lush surrounds in Starhill Gallery, prices are congruent with their sea-creature-serving competitors.
