Macarons Magnifique.

That’s what the Hilton Kuala Lumpur have in store for guests this month of April. A regularly changing afternoon tea menu means afternoon tea-goers are never bereft of choice. And, this month it’s with pleasure that we partake in an elegant French take on the tradition with macarons in The Lounge’s Hi-Tea.

Macarons

The sweets, often the highlight already for many hi-tea aficionados, are especially impressive this month with an entirely separate slate of handcrafted macarons. A pretty arrangement of raspberry, passion-coconut, milk chocolate and blackberry macarons are lined up ready for the picking. One. By. One. Besides attractive presentation, the flavours are well-balanced, not overly sweet with the natural essence of the ingredients coming to the forefront.

Desserts

You’d have to have a lion-sized sweet tooth to need more sugar after that and some of my girlfriends do indeed seem to have an insatiable appetite for anything and everything dessert, and so on I press. The secondary sweets tray is filled with milk chocolate and mango tart, strawberry religuesse (choux pastry filled with cream and dusted with strawberry sugar), a cappuccino shooter (light layered mousse reminiscent of tiramisu), lemon cheesecake (hubby’s fave), chocolate banana slice and is finished off with a simple hazelnut Madeline.

Savouries

The savouries tray, necessary to furnish some sense of self-assurance that it’s okay to eat so much pudding, features a variety of sandwiches, each enveloped in a variety of bread. Smoked salmon salad on laugen pretzel, Caesar salad with chicken on a sesame roll, curried chicken finger sandwich on white bread, and a baked chicken sausage roll complete the set. Both hubby and I found the laugen pretzel as the top pick.

Scones

The obligatory scones are included with both raisin and plain offered aside mini jars of jam and whipped cream. But, seriously, after all of that pud, we couldn’t quite get through more than half.

Coffee or Tea

Espresso based coffees and a wide selection of teas wash it all down and I find my herb and ginger tea a fine match.

All of this can sipped, nibbled and savoured in the lovely lobby of Hilton Kuala Lumpur Hotel. Double story windows overlook the traffic-lit highway immediately in the foreground and the greenery of Lake Gardens behind. A pianist plays gentle classics as we catch up on the latest happenings of the day and appreciate the craftsmanship invested in the Macaron Magnifique Hi-Tea.
