Balmain Bugs

Voted as one of the Top 10 buffets on the Gold Coast, The Cove Café proposes a compact selection of hot items, taco station, soup, salad bar, fresh seafood, cheeses and an extensive dessert table. Specific recipes change depending on seasonal ingredients, but the general sections are consistent.

My sister is particularly taken by the freshness of the seafood with favourites being the oysters and Balmain bugs. My teenage niece (a very fussy eater) is happy with the sushi and fresh passion fruit, and my nephew heads directly to dessert and finds a bowl of lollies and chocolate fondue before his mother steps in and insists on dinner before sweets. I enjoy the range of vegetarian dishes including an a well stocked salad bar and a number of hot items.

  1. The seafood buffet you had looks way better than the one I had recently….and at half the price (if we overlook the conversion) but twice as good (but certainly no balmain bugs or crabs in mine). These balmain bugs look really ugly and creepy in real……much like our “lai liu har” (aka mantis prawns).

  2. What a glorious place! It certainly looks like a sanctuary, and the offerings look delectable! The lamb stew, the crab and the cheese platter are very intriguing to me! Believe it or not, I have never tried crab other than in a salad made by a few Montreal grocery stores here. It is very good! However, this is what they call imitation crab, but I am willing to bet that I would like crab.
