Breeze Lounge, Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa

Breeze extends the lobby concept of Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa into a destination lounge rendering one of the prettiest views on the island. A contemporary casual ambience results from cushioned sofas, low benches, and a balcony with chairs and tables fringing the glass-fenced edge. But what is the real eye-catcher is the panorama of the Andaman Sea, backed by deep blue island humps and kept busy with luxury yachts and the occasional ferry sailing in and out of site. As the light changes so does the vista and it’s worth returning across the day to soak it up, as it seems to enchant even more with each revision.

Benefiting from a large hotel alliance, the wine menu is extensive with an especially chosen ‘Wines of the World’ range showcasing drops from around the globe. Cocktails are of course given their own entitlement with a list of refreshing concoctions to match the tropical surrounds. Martinis though, are a definite forte we’re told, so that is our first order.
Apple Martini (RM35) features fresh green apple, vodka, a hint of cinnamon and Midori. It has obviously been made a la minute with even the apple juice squeezed fresh. The beverage continues to hold a slight texture from the apple pulp and exhibits a spring green hue, partly derived from the fruit but also due to the melon liquor. With its refreshing healthy taste, we have a sneaky thought that we could almost get away with drinking it at brekkie.

Breeze Lounge is not solely for imbibement. A light menu of internationally styled bento boxes and Middle Eastern fare promises to assuage hunger pangs.
We find the Bento Boxes a no-fuss way of lunching. Served in an edged tray, they’re easy to eat laying back on the cushioned couches that fill most of Breeze, or just as easily shared over a table, while taking in the spectacular views.
Themed around various international cuisines, guests can order healthy, Middle Eastern, Malay, western and a variety of other nourishments. Vegetarian (RM38) is a healthy package of young papaya salad in Vietnamese rice paper spring rolls. A tangle of garden salad bases the three rolls continuing with the fresh crisp theme. A sweet chili sauce has a good kick to it and I’d definitely order this one again.

Vegetarian
T&T (RM42) comes with tuna topped with wasabi mayo, tobiko pearls, toasted wholemeal bread and pickled ginger. It’s another healthful choice.

Signature Little Slider Burgers (RM54) are accompanied with coleslaw, fat French fries, mustard and tomato sauce. Tomato, cheese and lettuce layer together with the patties in soft mini buns. This one has hubby’s attention and he easily finishes off the contents after my initial bite.

Malay Bento (RM38) holds signature beef and chicken satay with peanut sauce and traditional condiments. Meat is tender on the skewers and the sauce mild and sweet. It’s a tasty yet gentle version, good for unaccustomed taste buds to be introduced to this famous local dish.

Tropical Coconut-Coated Prawns (RM48) are sided with mango salsa, chili dip and home made anchovy mayonnaise. The trio of sauces rounds off beautifully the thick crunchy batter, but is not really necessary as the crustaceans and coating are fantastic on their own. This box has both of us delving in for more.
