Living Room, Macalister Mansion, Penang

Our choice hotel for a beautiful stay in Penang is, without doubt, Macalister Mansion. Besides the eight gorgeous designer rooms there are also four distinctly different food and beverage outlets! That’s one restaurant for every two rooms! It’s a stylish foodie’s heaven.

We’ve raved about the Living Room before, especially the coffee and happy quirky setting, so this round I just share a photo memory of our latest culinary trottings.

Breakfast is served from 8am until 10:30am for in house guests but is available for purchase all day long. Guests may choose a hot beverage, juice blend and an item from the all day breakfast menu as part of their accommodation package. Here are some of the yummy meals we indulged in:

Yoghurt and Granola Parfait (RM14) with apricot and peach yoghurt and, multi nut and raisin granola. Mum and I loved this one so much we ordered it both days.

Truffle Egg White Scramble (RM27) on brioche toast with sautéed mushroom, momotaro tomato, micro cilantro, crème fraiche and mesclun. Hubby loved the soft fluffy bread. I was attracted by the decadent smell of truffles.

Banana and Peach Crepes. These are just as delicious as they look. Crepes are slim and the fruity toppings plentiful. The caramelized nuts were a real treat.

TWG Passion Fruit Tea (RM20 pot) – a sweet and aromatic infusion of passion fruit and rich black tea. Great on ice!
It sounds unbelievable, but this Eight Room hotel has just opened a bakery too – which takes the number of food and beverage outlets up to five!
Here’s some more samplings:

Banana Poppyseed Cake (RM3); Mini French Croissant (RM1.40) not really that mini – light and buttery. Hubby ate two!; Miniature Vanilla Twirl (RM1.60)

Smoked Duck and Leek Quiche (RM7.50) – Scrummy!

Cheddar Cheese and Tomato Sandwich (RM8.50) – lightly toasted with thick slices of melty cheddar. Caramelized onion and roasted tomato give richness and, garden leaves add a hint of health between the rye bread layers. A drizzling of balsamic provides a light tang.
Bit size treats priced at RM3 are a welcome sight. They’re small enough to not feel guilty, but also also well priced for multiple tastings.

Chocolate Truffle with Pistachio – perfect guilt free size

Sticky Toffee Pudding (RM5.60) – best heated so the gooey topping melts into the cake.
Reason to visit: scrummy new bakery items, bright cheery setting, great coffee with expert barista Kishen working the machine
