Bubbly Brunch at Serena Brasserie, InterContinental Kuala Lumpur
Executive Chef Darrell J. OโNeill has created a smorgasbord spotlighting the best of Sunday get-togethers. Grilled meats, seafood on ice, crustacean salads and well-loved desserts represent my native homeland. The diversity of the immense island with its compelling Malaysian influences is celebrated too with a healthy sally of local favourites. Five varieties of laksa (!), noodle stations and a shining Peking Duck bar do the host region proud.
Besides the rows of hot dishes, salads, bread, cheeses and sweets, a bevy of live stations offer plates cooked to order. Head straight to Bruceโs Aussie Barbie for grilled meats, poultry and seafood cooked to your liking. Nearby (although the sign reads 150km away) is the Burger Man, Fish nโ Chips and Egg Buddies stalls where you can request your fancy to be cooked on the spot.
Floating around the tables are waiters with hot delights: Eggs in a Pot contains sausage slices, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms topped with egg, oregano, truffle oil and sun dried tomatoes; Mini Meat Pies with tomato sauce are quickly polished off by the Aussies present and: Eggs Benedict with Beef Rendang forms a tasty fusion dish.
Not one, but three sparkling wines are ready to fizz up your afternoon. Arthur Metz Cremant DโAlsace Brut from France is a blend of pinot blanc, fresh and fruity going well with seafood and white meat. From Australia the Seppelt Stony Peak Brut NV is a chenin blanc, colombard and semillon blend achieving aย young lively wine with a rich fruit character and some yeast complexity. The Val dโOca Prosecco Superiore DOCG Millesimato provides the third option with an extra dry finish perfect for fish and shellfish. Top up your bubbly with a splash of Blue Curacao, Crรจme de Cassis or Dry Orange Curacao and fresh berries to create a cocktail of your own devising. Also up for the imbibing is a fruity Lindemanโs Semillon Chardonnay and a Cono Sur Cabernet Sauvignon. Tiger Beer on the other hand might be just the right accompaniment for your Aussie style barbie. Tea, coffee and freshly squeezed juices are a plenty for those who wish to remain sober.
Children will have just as much fun as their parents with a bright entertainment area all of their own. Smurfs on TV, lolly and popcorn stations, colouring and activities are aplenty. Hands-on cooking classes with the pastry chef give the little ones a go at making lamingtons and a caricature artist sketches up their happy smiles as a memento. The dining area offers a clear view into the play arena giving parents peace of mind that their little ones are being well looked after and not causing a brouhaha (or happily seeing someone else deal with it
or a change).
