Heavenly Spa by Westin – can you imagine a more romantic setting?

Spa by Night, Special Venue Dining by Westin Langkawi Resort
and Spa, Malaysia
Picturesque cliffs and coves and rugged island tops marking
the horizon provide the backdrop to the Heavenly Spa by Westin. An adult’s only
pool and beach area dotted with love chairs and shaded with tropical trees overlooking
the calm waters of the Andaman Sea are the middle ground. An elegantly dressed
table for two, with the pathway lit by candles and lanterns mark the foreground
of the Spa by Night Special Venue Dining experience at the Westin Langkawi
Resort and Spa.
Exclusive locations around the resort have been handpicked
to provide a select few intimate dining environments. A secluded private jetty,
a sheltered grassy spot with the sea as your backdrop, or the tranquility of
the Heavenly Spa patio are a few of the tucked away sites where romantic
dinners can be arranged.
A Heavenly Couple’s Massage, followed by a romantic dinner
in a secluded location with our own private butler sounded too good to resist,
so we signed up for the Spa by Night dining experience at the Westin Langkawi
Resort and Spa. As the disappearing sun changed the colour of the skies, we
stepped out of our spa treatment rejuvenated and were greeted by our own personal
associate for the evening’s culinary adventure. Guided by soft lighting to a
wooden deck we arrived at a smartly dressed table with a panorama of the tree
stippled beach glowing in twilight. The sounds of the infinity pool plunging
the ledge and waves lapping the shore tinkled the air. The tranquil surrounds
imparted model conditions for an amorous rendezvous.
We chose a bottle of the Villa Maria Pinot Noir to carry us
through the menu. Seeing lots of seafood with hints of spice and sweet and sour
touches we thought the versatility of this light red wine with its ripe fruit
and soft spice palate and soft silky yet defined structure would create a harmonious
interplay from start to finish. The appetizer collection of Andaman Sea Lemon
Dill Cured Sea Bass with Curry Vinaigrette, Harissa Marinated Calamari and
Cucumber Onion Salad provided a contrast to our gentle spa experience with the sharp
radish and chili awakening the taste buds. For a moment I thought the elegant
pinot noir would not be strong enough to handle the piquancy of the starter,
however it proved to maintain form and stood up to its opponent creating a third
exciting level with collaboration of food and wine.
The main came straight from the grill with a combination of
barbecued Garlic Prawns, Sea Bass and Curried Scallop served with Baked Potato
and Charbroiled Root Vegetables finished with a Ginger Beurre Blanc. The
smoother main complemented rather than contrasted the Pinot Noir with the
mellow butteriness of the sauce playing well with the soft light palate of the
wine. The seafood theme was a peerless companion to the seaside setting.
We were so full by dessert time that we asked for just one
portion to share. Will I ever learn?  It
seems the answer is no! Crème Brulee for sweets (!) – I should have known that
I’d have to be fast to get a spoonful before hubby polished off his favourite
creamy ending.  A duo of Green Tea Crème
Brulee topped with blueberries and a Passionfruit Crème Brulee crowned with
strawberries were the source of competition.  The delicate caramelized coating was soon
fractured revealing a subtly sweetened centre. Both flavours were endearing,
but our common fondness of passionfruit meant a dash to the finish line. Tea,
coffee and a buggy ride back to our room were offered, but we instead decided
to finish the last drops of our pinot noir and take a leisurely digestive
stroll back to the resort.
Proposals, reconciliations, anniversaries, courting a
partner or just because you can – I’m sure you’ll think of an excuse to engage
in the Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa’s, Spa by Night Special Dining Venue.
Reason to visit:  proposals, anniversaries, romance!
