Shangri La’s Golden Sands Resort in Penang is a super place for families. Located on Batu Feringgi Beach, magnificent sunsets, tropical gardens and the sounds of the sea await visitors. Brimming with facilities and activities for all ages, the whole crew, including mum and dad, are assured of a satisfying getaway.
Shangri La, Golden Sands, Penang, Batu Feringgi, beach, resort, hotelThe Adventure Zone is an action packed playground filled with ball pools, slides, tunnels and climbing frames. With areas for dramatic play and arts and crafts too, children could joyfully pass hours running, climbing, jumping, creating and giggling. The usual entrance to the Adventure Zone is RM30, but if you book Sunday lunch at Garden Cafe, kids are entitled to free admission. Right next door to the Adventure Zone is Segway Drive – an eco friendly people transporter and track for racing around. Wednesday and Saturday nights kids’ movies are screened by the pool and daily activities such as volleyball are scheduled. Multiple pools means more than enough splashing fun. Morning and afternoon kid’s clubs give adults a further few hours off duty.
Shangri La, Golden Sands, Penang, Batu Feringgi, beach, resort, hotelWhile the kids are out exhausting themselves, parents can get busy too. A small, yet well equipped gym with a lush tropical garden outlook will see you working off some of that Penang street food. A par 3 golf course and tennis courts are best enjoyed early morning or late afternoon and a variety of water sports are on hand too for thrill seekers. Adults might also choose to head next door to the beautiful Rasa Sayang and book themselves in for treatments at the Chi Spa. A good book though, amongst the splendid verdant gardens with abundant beach chairs, might be more of your idea of relaxation.
Foodies can keep their hunger at bay with the Garden Cafe offering all day dining and an admirable sustainable seafood buffet Saturday evenings. For beach and poolside bites there’s Sigi’s Grill. Happy hours should be taken advantage of to sip some sundowners on the deck chairs, in cushy bean bags or at tables in the sand from Sigi’s Bar. The Cool Lounge is a relaxed spot for a coffee while you catch up on email, read the newspaper or partake in a table game in cool air conditioned comfort.
Shangri La, Golden Sands, Penang, Batu Feringgi, beach, resort, hotelRenovated just three years ago, this 32 year old resort is bright and fresh. White washed woods, starfish emblems, and green accents give a breezy beach feel. The U shape layout with rooms surrounding the pool and opening up to the sea is apparently good feng shui. All amenities and entertainment you’d expect from a hotel of this standard are included with free Wi Fi throughout the resort. The Deluxe Seafacing Room where we stayed was contemporary in design and the private balcony well used. There’s something about having your own spot to take in the ocean that is peace giving and rejuvenating. Morning coffee and night caps under the stars or the sun can all be had directly from your own personal patio.
Casual, seaside, facility packed and socially responsible, Shangri La’s Golden Sands Resort Penang is an excellent choice for a family friendly getaway.

  5. Hah! Am totally booking a night here end of this month. Thank you, Monica. Your pics helped me decide!
