Aloft Perth – Airport Hotel, Western Australia

Arriving on the 2 am flight from Kuala Lumpur to Perth, it was tempting to book an airport hotel. However, after checking out the options, I realised that the international terminal is so close to the city that there’s really no need to invest in accommodation that prioritises proximity over personality. Instead, just 10km and an easy Uber ride away, we stayed at the fun and vibrant Aloft Perth.
Trading the Terminal Tango for Riverside Revival
Aloft Perth’s address in Rivervale is just a short walk to the Swan River, and the rooftop offers an incredible view of the city’s skyline. We awoke to beautiful scenery with a stroll along the parkland bordering the water. Because we were just outside the city centre, it also gave us quick access to the highway and our holiday destination, the stunning wine region in the south.
Aloft Perth Rooms
The hotel’s design is modern, vibrant, and infused with a playful energy. The loft-inspired rooms are spacious and stylish, featuring plush bedding, rainfall and handheld shower heads, and state-of-the-art technology. The rooms are soundproof, and the bedding is incredibly comfortable. That, alongside blackout blinds and instant hot water in the shower, made for an excellent recovery sleep following the middle-of-the-night arrival.
And, readying us for the drive to Ferguson Valley, a gorgeous wine region in the south, was a hearty brekkie at Springs Kitchen.
Breakfast at Springs Kitchen
Springs Kitchen on the ground floor of Aloft Perth has both indoor and patio seating. It was beautiful Autumn weather during our visit, and the outdoor tables were popular with locals. That was our preferred spot, too. The street is lined with native Aussie trees, and the air felt so clean; it was therapy, just breathing.
Guests can include the morning buffet in their room package or dine a la carte. We did a mix of both with some very good-looking smashed avo toast, brekkie panna cotta, bacon, and eggs from the a la carte selection, which was backed up with a vibrant spread from the buffet. My avocado toast was a pretty picture with cherry tomatoes, feta, roasted hazelnut dukkah and a generous sprinkling of pomegranate covering a thick slice of sourdough. On the side were two perfectly poached eggs (flawless, with the white cooked all the way through and a yellow stream of yolk bleeding out). Han Sen appreciated the natural sweetness of the maple-glazed bacon in his main dish, and the mango panna cotta with lychee sago, fruit, granola, and chia seeds could almost be a healthy dessert.
There was plenty on the buffet to warrant repeat visits, too. A continental spread supported both Western and Asian hot breakfasts, including bacon, eggs, dumplings, and fried rice. An abundance of fruit, pastries, and healthy cups such as chia seed puddings and wonderfully thick Greek yoghurt ensured no one went hungry.
So, the food was good, but more importantly, so was the coffee! Using locally roasted Piazza Doro beans toasted to medium, my cuppa had notes of caramel, milk chocolate, and a slight honey sweetness. The brew was great with oat milk, but all sorts of regular and alternative milks were available.
Aloft Perth Restaurants, Bars & Facilities
If we had more time, we’d have checked out some of the offers at the W XYZ Bar, a lively hub that serves craft cocktails and food with regular specials such as happy hour and set meals. We might have even taken a dip in the pool or worked out in the gym. However, with the Swan River just across the road, I’d most likely exercise outdoors. Nature is just so darn beautiful here.
Aloft Perth Review
Alas, it was a short visit, less than eight hours, and we set off to explore the south revived and refreshed, thanks to the hotel and its awesome team. We departed with much gratitude to Ashley at the front desk, who was always ready to support and answer questions, and the kind Hui Hui, who kept our coffee cups full at breakfast and had excellent recommendations for what to order.
Thanks to Aloft Perth, we started our WA adventure on the right foot. The hotel offered both experience and convenience. We left refreshed, nourished, and ready to embark on our Western Australian adventure.
Reasons to stay at Aloft Perth: only 10km from the airport; quick access to the highway; so nice to wake up by the river; quiet leafy green neighbourhood; comfortable rooms – quality bedding and spacious, clean bathrooms; great brekkies; and warm, engaging staff.
