Moët & Chandon. Just the name conjures up images of clinking glasses, glamorous parties, and celebrations that go on long into the night. But did you know this iconic Champagne house has been crafting bubbly since 1743? That’s centuries of perfecting those celebratory bubbles! From royal courts to Hollywood red carpets, Moët has been the go-to choice for marking life’s most memorable moments.

Now, this legendary Champagne house is bringing Festive sparkle to Kuala Lumpur, teaming up with the ultra-chic Upper House KL for a Moët Experience Menu sure to make you drool. Exquisite dishes are each perfectly paired with a glass of Moët & Chandon. Sounds like the ultimate holiday indulgence, right? Upper House KL’s festive collaboration menu, in partnership with Moët & Chandon, promises to add sparkle to your celebrations until January 1st. The Yum List was one of the first in line to try out this new menu, and what an absolute treat it was.

Accessing Upper House KL feels like discovering a secret world.  Entering through a back alley off Jalan Petaling, you’d never expect the urban oasis that awaits; there is a signpost at the end of the alley, handy to point out to your grab driver, especially if it is raining! Take the lift on the left-hand side and be whisked away to the rooftop, where this modern glass box sits atop the B Hotel, boasting unparalleled views of the Merdeka 118 tower.  Suddenly, you’re in the heart of Chinatown, with a panorama that captures both the city’s vibrant history and its soaring ambitions. The contrast between the majestic Merdeka 118 and the charming, rustic shophouses below is simply breathtaking. A few weeks ago, a giant crane slowly made its way down that alleyway, not for the usual construction efforts that are quickly transforming this vibrant area of the city, but to deposit an enormous golden replica of the world-famous Eiffel Tower onto the roof terrace of Upper House KL.

At the launch event, Moët Hennessy Diageo’s Managing Director, Patrick Madendjian, illuminated this spectacular Eiffel Tower replica crafted from hundreds of empty Moët & Chandon bottles. He highlighted the beautiful symbolism: each bottle, once filled with celebratory bubbles, now contributed to a new festive experience. Gathered from across KL, they represent countless joyous moments and now form the centrepiece for more celebrations at Upper House’s Moët & Chandon festive menu.

There is no mistaking that since our last visit in September, Upper House KL has undergone a Moët & Chandon makeover! Windows decked with a latticework of delicate grapevines and birds, miniature hot air balloons floating overhead, and even Moët-themed cushions.  They’ve created a playful space with a photo booth to capture your bubbly-filled moments and a postcard station to send greetings to loved ones across Malaysia.  But the fun doesn’t stop there; purchase a festive bottle of Moët, and you’ll receive a fortune cookie with a unique charm inside. Plus, with every purchase of their Imperial Brut or Rose Imperial, you’ll get a coin to try your luck at a giant Moët & Chandon vending machine filled with surprise gifts (Monica snagged a gold Champagne stopper). Clearly, Moët & Chandon and Upper House have popped all the corks to create a truly festive and memorable experience, leaving everyone with smiles and happy memories.

The Moët Experience Menu (RM 228)

Whether you prefer the comfort of air-conditioning or the allure of open-air dining, Upper House KL has you covered. You can choose your own ambience with a fully glazed indoor space and a rooftop terrace featuring a retractable roof and al fresco seating. Drawn by the inviting views of the Moët & Chandon Eiffel Tower alongside the Merdeka 118, we opted for a table under the retractable roof. To accompany our meal, we were presented with a choice of Champagnes: Moët & Chandon Impérial Brut (RM468 per bottle, RM78 per glass) or Moët & Chandon Rosé Impérial (RM548 per bottle, RM98 per glass). While the price per bottle decreases with multiple purchases (sparking a fun “free Champagne?” debate!), sadly, it never quite reaches zero. Still, three bottles of Brut come in at RM1,288 and Rosé at RM1,488, a tempting offer for those celebrating in style.

We plumped for the Moët & Chandon Impérial Brut, a classic for a reason. This lively Champagne greets you with bright aromas of green apple, citrus, and a hint of brioche. It’s beautifully balanced on the palate, with crisp acidity and fine bubbles that dance on the tongue. Flavours of pear, white peach, and lemon zest linger in the finish. Its versatility makes it an excellent pairing for a wide range of dishes.

Amuse-bouche

We were in for a treat with not one but two generous amuse-bouches. The first was a playful take on crispy chee-cheong fun, beautifully presented on a frosted glass platter resembling an ice disc. This elevated version of a classic dim sum combined soft rice paper, nori, crunchy cucumber, and coriander for a delightful mix of textures, made even more exciting with the addition of crispy fried shallots. But the real highlight was the spicy sesame sauce, which added a delicious kick of chilli and a warm, nutty aftertaste.  Seriously, I could have happily eaten a whole plate of these!

The second amuse-bouche was a pair of butterfish sashimi delicately marinated in yuzu soy.  Lightly torched and finished with spring onions and micro herbs, the fish was melt-in-your-mouth tender.  Simple yet sensational.

If the goal of an amuse-bouche is to awaken the palate and build anticipation for the meal ahead, then after two, consider the mission accomplished.  We were officially ready for more. But first, can we talk about the stunning tableware? The exquisite plates caught our attention immediately—especially Ivan’s, our videographer (and restaurateur), who seems to have developed quite the eye for beautiful tableware.  We learned that the Moët Festive menu is presented on Noritake’s iconic Carnivale collection, known for its captivating, elegant French design.  Since 1904, Noritake has been a celebrated Japanese brand, crafting high-quality porcelain that adds an extra touch of elegance to any dining experience and has partnered here to provide the beautiful backdrop for the Moët Festive Menu.

Smoked Escargot & Mala Duck Quiche with Asian Salad

This picture-perfect golden quiche, accompanied by a crisp Asian salad with a zesty, spicy dressing, was almost too beautiful to eat. It was a feast for the eyes, presented on a pink and white bone china plate with delicate gilt accents. Monica confirmed that the pastry was indeed as perfect as it looked—buttery, crisp, and filled with a creamy custard studded with meaty escargot and rich duck.

French Onion Soup Infused Masak Lemak Spice

As we were expecting a bowl, gasps erupted around the table when this French onion soup arrived in a stunning lavender and white bone china teacup, complete with delicate gilt accents. It was clear that this wasn’t your typical bistro fare; this was French onion soup reimagined.

Caramelised onions formed the base of a rich broth infused with masak lemak spices—a traditional Malay curry known for its fragrant blend of coconut milk, lemongrass, and turmeric. The subtle spicing added incredible depth and complexity, making every other onion soup I’ve ever had seem, well, a bit bland. And forget the ordinary cheese-laden crouton. This version boasted a delicate puff pastry wafer layered to golden perfection and topped with beetroot, radish, cream cheese, and a sprinkle of pea shoots and parsley. It was as delicious as it was beautiful—truly the royal treatment for a classic dish.

There are three main courses to choose from. Of course, we shared all three in the interests of our readers!

Pan Seared Fish with Portuguese Sambal, Kaffir Lime Oil & Grilled Wing Bean

The flaky white fish was perfectly seared, with a crisp skin and tender flesh. The Portuguese sambal added a fiery kick, while the kaffir lime oil provided a refreshing citrusy note. The charred wing bean added a touch of colour and a delightful crunch to the dish. Presented on elegant Noritake Carnivale dinnerware, this dish was as pleasing to the eye as it was to the palate.

Confit Chicken, Roasted Garlic Sauce, Grilled Pumpkin & Zucchini

Chef Jason Wooi took a break from the kitchen to share the inspiration behind the Confit Chicken. He explained that it was a modern interpretation of traditional Malaysian kampung cooking, where ovens were a rarity. In the past, chicken would be basted in oil, wrapped in foil, and then slow-cooked in the ground under a fire, resulting in incredibly tender and juicy meat. While building a bonfire in the Upper House kitchen wasn’t exactly an option (much to the relief of the management, I’m sure), Chef Jason achieved similar results by marinating the chicken in spices for over four hours and then slow-cooking it in the oven for three and a half hours, continuously basting it to ensure crispy skin and succulent flesh. It was served on another stunning plate, this one blue and white striped, with a grilled pumpkin slice and balls of zucchini, a smooth glossy garlic sauce, a crown of crispy fried shallots, and shredded spring onion and red pepper.

Wagyu Steak Frites, Garden Salad & Kulim Aioli (RM 60 Supplement)

The wagyu steak, sourced from Australia and boasting a marbling score of 6-7, was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, which resulted in a beautiful brown char on the outside, giving way to succulent, red flesh within. It was served with a generous dollop of Kulim aioli, playfully tinted pink with beetroot juice. Kulim, also known as “jungle garlic,” is a hard-shelled fruit with a complex, almost truffle-like flavour that added a unique depth to the aioli. This earthy richness complemented the wagyu beautifully, while the accompanying green salad, dressed with a zesty vinaigrette, provided a refreshing counterpoint to the decadent steak.

Roasted Chestnut Christmas Ornament with Chocolate Sable

I mentioned that some dishes were almost too beautiful to eat, but this dessert took the crown. Imagine a perfect Christmas bauble, shimmering with edible gold and strawberry dust. Inside this delicate chocolate sphere, a creamy mousse enveloped a chocolate sablé, the “little black dress of biscuits”—reliable, sophisticated, and just a touch naughty. But the real surprise? Hidden popping candy sparked a lively debate about what we called this childhood treat in Australia, England, and Malaysia. It was the perfect end to a delightful meal, made even better with another glass of chilled Moët & Chandon Impérial Brut. After all, ’tis the season! Cheers!
