Edge Luxury Villas, in the heart of Margaret River’s famed wine country, represents a paradigm shift in luxury travel. Here, we find a sanctuary where environmental stewardship and refined indulgence coexist in harmony. Proprietors Clare and Cameron Kissell have crafted an experience that connects with the region’s natural beauty without compromising on the comforts expected by sophisticated travellers.
Margaret River, a destination celebrated for its world-class wineries, pristine beaches, and breathtaking landscapes, presents a unique challenge: to offer luxury that complements, rather than competes with, its natural splendour. Edge Luxury Villas rises to this challenge with a commitment to sustainable practices. Each villa, a model of off-grid living, is powered by solar energy and utilises rainwater harvesting. The passive design maximises natural light and ventilation, minimising the villas’ environmental footprint. Native landscaping, honed cement floors and natural furnishings further demonstrate that opulence and ecological responsibility can be seamlessly integrated. There’s even an EV charging station catering to modern needs.
The 137-acre property is biodiverse, a sanctuary where endangered black cockatoos and western ringtail possums find refuge in the old-growth forest. We had fun spotting the native wildlife in a buggy ride around the property with owner Clare knowing the best viewing spots. Western Grey Kangaroos dot the horizon and there’s an abundance of birdlife. If you’re lucky you might see the elusive quendas and phascogales, sometimes confused for their cute cousins, the quokkas on Rottnest Island.
The filtered-water lake, a focal point of the property, attracts a diverse array of feathered friends. We think we spied shelducks and wood ducks. We’re amateurs, but the book on our coffee table with photos of our plumed neighbours guided us. The feature bridge, a creation of Cameron Kissell, illuminates for an hour each evening, transitioning into a canvas for stargazing when the lights go out, and the dark skies offer flawless conditions. While we don’t take a dip, the filtered-water lake is so pristine it’s swimmable. If swimming, bushwalking or wildlife spotting are not your thing, there are also picnic rugs, games and puzzles for entertainment.
Edge Luxury Villas encourages a slower pace of life, a return to the simple pleasures of nature, and refined living. The cantilevered balconies, furnished with a low table and chairs, hammocks, and cosy blankets, provide the perfect setting for breathtaking sunrises with freshly brewed and locally roasted coffee, leisurely afternoons with Margaret River wines and cheeses, or quiet moments in the hammock with a good book.
Each villa is a masterpiece of design and functionality, with modern comforts such as air-conditioning, a wood heater, high-speed Wi-Fi, plenty of charging points and a large television. Quality bedding and mattresses ensure a sound night’s sleep, while local art by Karen Seaman adorns the interiors, adding a touch of regional charm. Bathrooms are luxurious with stone baths overlooking the lake, Vasse Felix toiletries, and bubble bath by Dini Naturals. Small extras like a scented candle, plush robes and night sensor lights verify the meticulous thought gone into fostering a complete experience.
The kitchenettes are equipped with SMEG appliances, including a coffee machine, dishwasher, microwave, cooktop, and half-sized fridge. We’re treated to Margaret River Roastery coffee, fresh milk, and a complimentary bottle of wine. Plenty of fabulous places for lunch are just minutes away, but it’s also enticing to bring groceries and settle in.
Whether using it as a base for enjoying long lunches at nearby wineries, exploring the region’s caves and forests, or unwinding on your private balcony, Edge Luxury Villas offers an experience that is both luxurious and environmentally conscious. It is a destination where discerning travellers can indulge their love for fine living while embracing sustainability. Much love has clearly gone into curating this experience, and we thank Clare and Cameron for their dedication to providing an extraordinary stay in Margaret River.
