Marcus and Mei Wan – The Kitchen Table, TTDI

What do you do and how did you get into the industry?
We’re the co-owners of The Kitchen Table Restaurant & Bakery! Marcus started off working as a dishwasher in a small restaurant and hasn’t looked back since. Mei Wan followed her passion for sweets and pastries and worked her circuit around some of the top restaurants and bakeries in the UK before returning home. We both started The Kitchen Table as a supper club back in 2013 and are proud to have started this place as of June 2014.
What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of our job is being able to push the boundaries on giving our guests a memorable experience at The Kitchen Table! On the food end, we take great efforts to develop products and dishes that are different and familiar at the same time. We believe hospitality is given by creating a positive and friendly environment with our team and our guests.
What’s your personal favourite meal/ drink at The Kitchen Table?
A cookie and a cup of coffee with a slice of sourdough toast in the daytime, and fried chicken and craft beer at night!
The perfect day off would be…
Digging deep into our library of cookbooks and visiting the wet markets for inspiration! We’re inspired by local produce that is around us, and being different.
What’s something you’d like guests to know about The Kitchen Table?
We’re all about warm hospitality and thoughtful cooking! Nothing beats eating good food and being surrounded by great company. It’s a place where we want people to come back over and over again.

What’s your view on the KL food scene?
At the rate that independent F & B businesses are growing, we couldn’t be happier! It keeps healthy competition and builds talent within the industry.
What’s in store for you in the upcoming months?
We’re excited for Christmas coming up and will be looking at rotating some dishes on the menu. Most importantly, we’re excited to be celebrating our sixth month in business!
