Garden Café, Grand Hyatt Bali, Nusa Dua, Indonesia

Garden Café is a lively hub in the core of the hotel. Adjacent to the lobby, the restaurant serves international dishes from the East and West for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Enveloped in a wall of water and greenery, the surrounding waterfalls, lagoons and lush foliage do away with the need for too much adornment. Mother Nature exudes her resplendent charm instead.
Grand Hyatt Bali has some classic refreshments on the menu at Garden Café. We try both a Ginger Iced Tea (Rp. 65 000) and a Fruit Blend (Rp. 80 000) of strawberry, orange, pineapple and banana. I appreciate having the sugar syrup on the side so that I may add (or not) as desired for my tea, and hubby enjoys the dense and sweet fruit smoothie he receives.

A basket of warm baguettes, white, corn and wholemeal, look and taste so mightily tempting that we have to force ourselves not to fill up on bread alone. The menu is a mix of Asian, Western and some Balinese favourites. It’s the middle of a warm day however, so we’re looking for something of a light nature.

Thai Seafood Salad (Rp. 120 000) supplies prawns, snapper and squid coated with a lemon grass, chili and kaffir lime dressing. Seafood and veggies are fresh and the dressing is mild, well suited to someone new to Thai food or who prefer their food not too spicy.

The Mushroom Soup (Rp. 75 000) is a clear broth filled with fresh chunks of mushrooms, white beans and petite potato cubes. I was expecting a cream, but this lighter version pleasantly surprises. It’s seasoned with loads of fresh herbs and feels a healthful start.

Continuing with my vegetarian theme I have the Wood Smoked Vegetable Lasagne (Rp. 155 000) for my main. It’s a rather large bowl and can easily be shared. A creamy béchamel sauce infiltrates the layers of veggies and pasta, and I need hubby’s help to get through this dish.

But, the Grilled Catch of the Day (Rp. 190 000) is the star of our lunch. It turns out to be a moist flaky fillet of barramundi. Vine tomatoes, potato cake, capers, parsley and olives add some delicious side fare and a drizzling of extra virgin olive oil washes across the top. Make sure you order this super fresh plate. It’s sublime.

Catch of the Day
Even though it’s the middle of the day, we’re able to sit outside without breaking even a drop of perspiration in this garden setting. Coconut palms and an umbrella shade us, and the sounds of the rolling waves in the distance act as a hypnotic hum. Hubby says he could eat in this setting every day, and I have to agree.
Reasons to visit: pleasant garden setting; catch of the day.
