Cronier Wines

In the past, images of wild animals and political unrest may have sprung to mind upon hearing the words “South Africa.” In the not so distant past magical coastlines and spectacular natural beauty may have entered that mind space. Nowadays though, pictures of vineyards, tastes of fresh crisp wines and an increasingly interesting dining scene are more likely to invade your thoughts.

Courtesy of Cronier Wines and the South African Embassy in Malaysia, some fortunate guests in Kuala Lumpur were able to sample some of the latter two. In an event held at Dirty Nelly’s at the KL Life Centre, wine, food and entertainment rallied attendees for an evening of diversion and palatory satisfaction.

Chef Bobby Shah from Amadeus Bistro downstairs whipped up some typically South African cuisine with lots of carnivorous treats. Venison Stew and Oxtail Casserole were two of the highlights. But, what’s a meal without wine?

A feast to accompany the wine

Easily paired with food or strong enough to stand on their own, a variety of red, white and sparkling wines had guests enjoying the evening. Two wines that stood out for us were the Cronier Drierbergen from Premier Range and the Cronier Cuvee Brut from the Sparkling collection. The rich red has a perfect blend of ripe fruit and smoky spice, while the effervescent white with its delicate fruit flavours and abundance of bubbles is an affordable alternative to champagne.

The entertainment, however, didn’t just end with food and wine. The South African Ambassador to Malaysia, who is an articulate orator, had guests in stitches with his humorous introduction and welcome to the event. Later in the night, live music, of which the ambassador joined a few songs, and a coordinated group of dancers left attendees awestruck with their
talents.
