Persian Food Festival at Eccucino, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Guest writer and photographer, Chris and Max Wright, discover some pleasing Persian treats at Eccucino.

Eccucino restaurant at the Prince Hotel in downtown KL is featuring a Persian Food Festival by the brilliant Chef Shahriar Azarakhshi from March 15-31, 2012. The menu which was designed by Chef Shah is in timing with the Persian New Year or the Spring Equinox which falls on March 20 and 21.

There are many dishes to choose from and the appetizers are a great place to start. Begin with the Falafel and the Shami Nokhod (chickpea and meat puree) and then add a dab of beetroot yoghurt or, my personal favourite, the Shirazi Salad (tomato and cucumber) to complete. If you are a fan of pickles, this food festival is for you! There are a variety of different pickled vegetables to select from including a garlic pickle that is steeped in vinegar for a very different taste. Also not to miss is the Humous and smoky Baba Ganoush with Zattar and Pita Bread for dipping. Dinner is served with a chilled Mint Tea that goes perfectly with the meal, but for an additional cost a variety of other drinks are available including fresh juices.
A wonderful selection of mains await you, including a Herbed Lamb Stew where the lamb melts in your mouth and the carrots are cooked to perfection. More wholesome options are the Lamb Kofta Kebab, Chicken and Beef Kebabs with tomato rice, and another favourite, the Chicken Shawarma topped with vegetables and yoghurt dressing. A delightful accompaniment to the mains is a light Barely Soup with delicious chunks of barley and vegetables.
The dessert table is full of cakes, sweets and rice pudding tummy tempters. There is also a wide range of ice cream flavours. The Dates in Pastry (an original recipe by Chef Shah) and the Dates in syrup are both excellent paired with their house coffee.

There are many other non-Persian foods on display but I would highly recommend diving into the Persian dishes highlighted over the next two weeks. This buffet is only at the Prince Hotel from March 15-31, 2012 (RM98 nett). The dishes rotate every few days, so hurry while you can and if you get the pleasure of meeting Chef Shah, you will be sure to enjoy this meal even more!

  2. to set myself in the right mood for this buffet, maybe i should re-read 1,001 Arabian Nights. then by the time i'm here, i'll be eagerly anticipating a feast of meat & bread & more, all done the middle eastern way 😀

  3. I m not so fancy of Persian food…

  4. I just had dinner at House of Kebab and the food wasn't that great. I'm still learning to appreciate Persian food. Will keep this place in mind if we are carving for Persian food this month. =)

  5. I have not tried Persian food before, maybe I should go and try.

  6. gosh, i'm hopeless at telling the difference between variations of middle eastern food. i know there are supposed to be subtle difference between iranian food, lebanese food, turkish food, etc, but it seems difficult to figure out. nevertheless, all their dips are always deeeeeelicious! 😀

  7. they look good. love the richness of the colours and i bet the flavours are exquisite too.

  8. As a Persian, It can be a tasty experience for you to travel to Iran and test the food there (because the material in Iran is more suitable for Persian food). I recommend you to do it at winter to enjoy sky resorts too.
