In-Room Dining, The St. Regis Langkawi, Malaysia

Arriving our first night to Langkawi, we want a meal without fuss and something we don’t have to change our clothes for. Settling deeper and deeper into the comfort of our pool suite at The St. Regis Langkawi, leaving the room couldn’t be further from our minds. Fortunately in-room dining is available 24 hours everyday, so with our work clothes off and bathrobes on, we pick up the phone.

The menu consists of breakfast items, all day dining, late night dining and a children’s menu. Given we’re both especially fussy, we’re impressed that our orders and special requests are met with no problem, and remarks of “ of course we can do that for you.”

About 45 minutes after our initial phone conversation, our butler arrives with a trolley with cold items atop and hot items stored in a special facility underneath. He sets our table with napkins, toothpicks, cutlery, glasses of water, and even a vase of flowers as adornment. Before departing, he checks that we have everything we need and leaves his card reminding us that when we’re done he’s just a call away and will clear the table when requested.

Hubby’s Traditional Oriental Fattoush Salad (RM75) is composed of crisp romaine lettuce, tomatoes, balls of smooth creamy labneh, and olives. Crunchy pita bread chips are tossed through and a zesty lime vinaigrette freshens the salad, making it an enticing starter.

My vegetarian option sees a beautiful platter of Mediterranean Cold Mezze (RM105) plated on a golden metal tray. Hummus, baba ghanoush, stuffed vine leaves, fattoush and labneh make a delicious spread. I’m dining on this on our arrival night, but I imagine it a fabulous order for nibbling on in our private pool with a bottle of bubbly.

Open Faced Lobster Sandwich (RM130) is one of the resort’s signature dishes, and my chosen main. Avocado, cherry tomatoes and quail eggs bolster the generous portion of tender moist crustacean. Extra virgin olive oil and a lemon dressing give a delicious Mediterranean flavour, and it’s all served atop a crusty country loaf with a side of mixed greens. It’s pretty, fresh and delicious.

Hubby’s been mumbling about eating fish by the sea since we set foot on the tarmac of the Langkawi airport, so his main, Grilled Catch of the Day (RM175) is suitably appealing. The menu lists accompaniments as a spicy Malaysian salad and fragrant steamed rice, but heat aversive hubby has requested it with no spice, so finds a satisfying range of steamed veggies and mashed sweet potato as tasty companions.

We have no need to order dessert as the resort has left a welcome treat of hand-made chocolates, and these provide just the right amount of sweet to end.

  1. The lighting is very neat, and ‘almost’ reminds me of my disco days during my teen years. Fun times! I like the ambiance and decor, and the presentations are lovely! The dish that would interest me the most out of this lot would be the grilled fish. And chocolate? Yes, please! 🙂

    • Hey almost! I recall my dad made me my very own ‘disco ball’ – it had to be hand wound to get the colour effects. 😉 Grilled fish is a healthy and delicious choice.

  2. Love the lamp, real cool indeed. So they have one in Langkawi too, eh? 6-star, real classy, exclusive.

  3. Great photos Monica; indeed a very classy hotel.

  4. OMG What a fantastic setting. I just love that Arabic style lamp and, the its reflection on the walls. I wish I was in Langkawi it is such a pleasant island (especially the Datai Bay).
    P.S. Yummy Lobster Sandwich 😉
