Say the name Ritz-Carlton and immediately I think of glitz and glam. Overlooking Marina Bay and its associated iconic landmarks, the location certainly promises to fall in line with the luxurious reputation of this brand. Recent renovations, flawless service and a rather fabulous club floor, don’t disappoint either on our recent trip.

Lobby

Located on the highest floors of the hotel with views over Marina Bay or the city skyline, a suite booking ensures the full charisma of this luxury property is captured. From the Premier Suite of 60sqm up to The Ritz Suite of a whopping 218 sqm, a tranquil retreat with hard-to-beat views is promised.

Views of Marina Bay from the Premier Suite

We’re in a corner room, a Club Premier Suite with Marina Bay Views for the weekend, and from entry to exit we feel like celebrities. Staff are waiting on our floor for in-room check-in with fresh fruit cocktails and chilled moist towels to greet our arrival. We have on-demand butler service delivering newly brewed coffee and tea at our request 24 hours a day, and an incredibly competent concierge service that seems to predict our needs before we even know we have them ourselves. Complimentary shoeshine, pressing of clothes upon arrival, and a couple of items laundered each day too is included.

And, that’s without even leaving our room. Head upstairs to the Club Floor and we enter the chief pampering zone. Once our eyes are unhooked from the magnificent panorama of Marina Bay viewed from a bird’s eye perspective, we’re able to appreciate the custom-tailored furniture, hand-woven carpets, teak and marble flooring and shimmering crystal and wood wall panels that altogether combine into a space of comfortable swankiness. The Drawing Room, which is literally a ‘drawing’ room equipped with easel, sketchpad and pencils, makes us smile. The division of a larger space into smaller intimate areas is another appreciated mark in design.

Champagne for Brekkie? Of course!

Gourmet privileges surely rival the best of club lounges we’ve had the pleasure of capitalizing on anywhere in the world. Not just the usual light breakfast and evening cocktail is provided, but five distinct culinary indulgences are scheduled each day: breakfast; midday snacks; afternoon tea; hors d’oeuvres and cocktails; and desserts and cordials. And… that’s not all folks – a quality selection of wine and champagne are available all day long – not just limited to cocktail hours. An enomatic machine showcases six quality drops of which we enjoy a Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, and a French Riesling. Champagne cocktails must also be tasted (and too are available free flow) and who can resist ordering one (or three) in such a magnificent setting. For more variety in food and beverage, Colony on the ground floor is an epicurean’s delight. We’re so spoiled up here for the moment however that leaving the Club Lounge doesn’t even cross our minds. If it did though we have a complimentary limousine service that will chauffeur us around the immediate precinct.

With this View We Must Have a Cocktail or Three…

We do eventually leave the Club and it’s back to our suite for the night. With two divergent sleeping characters (an early bird and a night owl), separate bedroom, bathroom and living quarters are always appreciated. Sealed off from a large living room and study area, hubby can watch his late night games, and I may rise before the crack of dawn, each without disturbing the other. Even if our waking hours were the same, there’s a 46-inch LED TV and DVD player in both the living room and bedroom, so our individual preferences in screen entertainment continue to be catered to.

View from Bed

The lush feather bed, enormous in size and accessorised with a choice of pillows is one of the most wonderful we’ve slept in. Remote controlled black out and day blinds ensure a distraction-free sleep, and the feeling of lying in bed in the morning and unveiling the iconic Marina Bay in the frame of the window is undisputable bliss.

Oh and I haven’t yet mentioned the bath. Long enough to house my lengthy frame comfortably, partnered with Asprey bath products and an octagonal window mounting the skyline, soaking here all day is a very pleasant notion. Separate shower and toilet, double sinks, a walk in closet – the amenities are almost on par in terms of space as our apartment’s entire living area.

During this stopover we barely make it out to discover other areas of the hotel, but the seven acres of manicured gardens, a 24 hour fitness centre, spa and tree-lined pool will be on our agenda for the next trip.

Reasons to visit: stunning views over Marina Bay; well worth the upgrade to a Club room – it’s one of the best club lounge experiences we’ve had around the world; heavenly bedding; thoughtful, friendly and gracious service.
