What do you do and how did you get into the industry?
I’m the founder of Blaq Coffee. We do coffee bean subscription featuring small batch coffee roasters in Malaysia. I have always been a coffee lover. I used to drink lots of coffee from a variety of coffee chains back in those days. I wanted to learn more about coffee, and I started working as a barista in Artisan Roast TTDI a couple of years ago. I used that love and knowledge to start Blaq Coffee where we search for awesome coffees from all around Malaysia

Coffee itself is interesting, same goes for our job. We search for great coffees from many coffee roasters in Malaysia. Meeting people with lots of passion in the specialty coffee industry is truly an eye opening experience. We learn a lot along the way from many inspirational people in the industry. And we’ve found that most of the time, coffee people do think alike!
What’s the best part of your job?
I get to taste lots of coffees from many coffee roasters all around Malaysia and get to share the best with my subscribers.

A slice of delicious cheesecake and a long black.
The perfect day off would be…
… a trip by the beach with my family, and some ice cold coffee.
What’s your view on the KL coffee scene?
Somebody told me recently that good coffee is everywhere in the Klang Valley these days. It’s really great to see more and more customers becoming educated about coffee. Some are willing to attend coffee classes and workshops, and most of them know where to find a good cup of coffee. I believe more customers will start to enjoy and appreciate specialty coffee in the future, simply because our coffee has never been more delicious!
