These of course are all things you’d expect to find in this hotel category. Some extra details however, such as a DVD player, scales and magnified make-up mirror, do not go unnoticed. Views of the city or a pretty atrium are the general vistas, but we think it’s worth a few extra ringgit to secure an outlook to the sea and further beyond to the islands of Tunku Adbul Rahman Marine Park.

Interiors showcase clean lines associated with modern design. A light colour palette is brightened with soft hues from local artworks and the stunning scenery itself viewed from enormous windows. A frosted glass sliding door opens or privatizes the bathroom as needed, and plenty of storage space is appreciated enabling the uncluttered feel to be maintained.

An upgrade to a Regency Club room offers use of the boardroom and access to the Regency Club Lounge. Even if you haven’t booked a sea view room for your stay, you can still admire the beautiful panoramas at any time of day from the lounge. What’s even better is that service staff are there to assist your every need. Breakfast is served here too promising a quieter environment than the buffet downstairs, and an evening cocktail and canapés session is well attended. Light refreshments including tea and coffee, nuts, chips and cookies are served throughout the day.

Facilities
There’s much to see in the neighbouring areas, but for those who don’t want to venture too far from comfort, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu has fitness and relaxation facilities at leisurely convenience.
Claimed as the pool with the best view in KK, the newly renovated area commands lovely views out over the islands and calm blue sea. Cabanas with stylish new sunbeds grab our attention, as does the verdant landscaping. There’s even a massage area where the Avantang Spa team can make your experience even more de-stressing. A separate children’s pool keeps the little ones safe, and child-free adults at an out of-earshot distance. Cocktails and snacks delivered to your deck chair from the Poolside Bar boost the cheeriness of the spot even further.

Those cocktails can be well earned in the Fitness Centre, which is open 24 hours, with a workout on a Technogym cardio machine taking full advantage of the water views, or a strength training session with both free weights and resistance machines.

Or perhaps some time in the spa is of higher interest. Avantang Spa infuses natural remedies with products from the local mountains, ocean and rainforest into their customized treatments. Depending on the customers’ desired results, ingredients such as volcanic clay, coffee, seaweed, flowers and other fruits of nature are utilized to renew, balance or boost energy.

Food and Beverage
The island of Borneo is renowned for its fresh produce including unique plants harvested from the wild and fresh catch from the sea. It only makes sense that the Hyatt Regency Kinabalu would take cuisine seriously, especially when discerning taste buds have been spoiled with local quality and freshness.
Tanjung Ria Kitchen is the hub of the hotel with its open kitchens fostering interaction with chefs and customization of meals to suite each guest’s preferences. Halal certified, with multiple cooking stations whipping up both local and international recipes, the restaurant caters to a wide range of palates and has a certain buzz to it that is rather appealing. Check out our most loved dishes via this link, as well as prices and otherpertinent details.

Set up as a modern living room, The Lounge immediately sets us as ease with its homey décor. A meeting place pre or post dinner, or for a longer stretch nibbling on an afternoon tea set with sweets, savouries and a hot beverage, The Lounge is versatile, just as if it might be in our own home. Here you can find some more details on our afternoon nibble and suggested bites.

The award winning Japanese restaurant, Nagisa, not only showcases a wonderful a la carte menu, but a delightful monthly Saturday night buffet too. Framed with dark wood panels, and lit with gentle warm lighting, it’s a venue valued for its ability to entertain important guests and visitors. Follow this link for some photos and recommendations of what to order.

Mosaic, on the other hand, in casual Italian bistro style, spills out onto the sidewalk tickling passerby’s noses with the smell of goodies hot out of the oven and tempting them with some cool sustenance in the form of a scoop (or two) of homemade ice cream. Again, we took full advantage of our stay and have some tips for what to order in this article.

Happy Hours at Shenanigan’s Fun Pub and Terrace lubricate the way to a fun night out. Live bands and DJs perform in the evenings Monday to Saturday and the outdoor patio is a favourite spot from which to savour the sunset with a chilled beverage in hand.

  1. Wowwww!!!! Stunning, your pic of the sunset. Glad that they have maintained the hotel really well – my missus and I stayed there when they were still sparkling new – it was the Kinabalu International Hotel then – on our way to Manila & Baguio for our honeymoon. The Hyatt we stayed in at Baguio collapsed like a deck of cards in a horrendous earthquake some years later in 1990.

  2. The KK Hyatt looks really great – especially the sunset scenes as shown.
I recall the Baguio Hyatt collapse in the 1990's.
I bet better construction went into the building of future Hyatts after then.
Baguio was an interesting place – went down 'rapids' on some river up that
way once – pretty hair raising experience.
    Cheers
    Colin
