Kee’s Creampuffs

Kee’s Durian Creampuff by the bold and the brave Polly Szantor
When I heard
there were durian creampuffs waiting for me at my condo, I began salivating at
the thought.  I arrived home and the
fragrant scent of durian permeated the air.
I placed three puffs on a plate, and took the cap off one of them.  The pale yellow cream obviously contained
real durian, no artificial flavours or colours here.  Next a little taste…oh heaven…the filling was
almost like eating pure durian.  Though I
wanted to savour each puff, I demolished all three in no time flat.  So it is with durian.  Once you start, it’s hard to stop.  Sweet and creamy, aromatic and alluring;
there is no wonder the durian is named the king of fruits, though I must say I
rather see it as a feminine taste.  I
would like to rename it the queen of fruits and Kee the king of durian
creampuff makers.
Kee’s Creampuffs (the other 10 flavours) by the slightly more sensible Kristin Cosgrove

The creampuff has gotten short shrift lately, what with the current macaron mania and cupcake craze.  But at Kee’s Creampuffs in Subang Jaya, you’ll happily find the modest French pastry front and center.  No flashy frosting or unnatural, electric colors, just simple and very fresh morsels of pastry filled with the perfect amount of delectable custard and cream.
Kee’s Creampuffs are baked fresh daily with no preservatives and as such and the quality of the ingredients is evident in every bite.  The puffs were a nice consistency, a bit chewy and not too dry and the taste was flavourful, but not overly eggy.  The generous filling was heavenly, thick with subtle flavours and no greasy aftertaste as one finds with lesser ingredients.  This is the real thing!
Our box of 25 was filled with ten flavours, including blueberry, strawberry, mocha, coffee and chocolate, as well as a few not listed on Kee’s Facebook page, including sweet corn, oreo, and chocolate-banana – my favorite.  The chunks of actual banana were evident and added texture and sweetness to the understated chocolate flavour.  Being a chocolate lover, the oreo came in a close second, with small cookie bits blended into the filling. Yum!
For those with more traditional tastes, the puffs also comes with the “classic” flavoring, either plain or chocolate topped.  Of course, what good Malaysian establishment would be without the requisite sweet corn flavour?  While I still haven’t acquired the taste of corn as a dessert, I still appreciated the flavour as being fresh, light and clean.  That being said, all the varieties were really nice.  Yes, I tried them all, for the good of the cause of course.
One just isn’t enough when it comes to Kee’s Creampuffs.  Finished in two or three easy bites, you’ll need at least a few to go with your morning cup of coffee or tea.  Craving a box now?  Visit the store front in person from 8:30am – 8:30pm.  Or, pre-order 100 pieces or more and Kee’s Creampuffs can come to you.  Delivery is available in PJ and select areas of KL for only RM7.  Two days notice is required.
Reason to visit: Dreamy creampuffs, no preservatives, baked fresh daily.

  3. Am glad they now have their own shop. Tasted them last December and they are just as good as my fave ones in my hometown.

  4. Looks like u're a fan of cream puffs! So far, those in Japan are the best. I always like to tapau from Tokyo. Maybe I should try your recommendation too if I've the chance 🙂

    • Now that you mention it, I've tried the Japanese cream puffs. The outlet in KL has enormous ones. The ones at Kee's are about a bit and a half. I don't know which is better. Having a few smaller ones or one bigger one. Hope you get to try the ones in KL soon. 🙂

  5. Yay, cream puffs! Up until now, the best cream puffs I've tasted are the ones from Auckland. Since it's near my place, I think I will make a drive there to give it a try and see whether I can compare it to the NZ version.
