Sand Bar, Hard Rock Hotel, Penang, Malaysia

Hard Rock Hotel, Penang, Batu Feringgi, bar, where to drink, cocktails
Borrowing their line, “There’s no better way to end a day than a beer in hand and feet in the sand,” I’d have to agree (except perhaps substituting wine for beer.)  The newly launched Sand Bar, at the Hard Rock Hotel Penang, is a rustic hut on the beach. Occupying prime position between the beach and the pool, you can choose your liquid pleasure. The ultimate after pool, before dinner location, encourages you to dry off watching the sunset with cocktail in hand before making an easy flow to the pizzeria next door. Casual and laid back, a bikini or swimming trunks are appropriate attire. In line with the relaxed and fun feel of Hard Rock, anything goes.
While I prefer my cocktails with fresh juice, not the prepackaged variety, the Sand Bar does have an extensive drink list. Their signature cocktail, the Sandyjager is a sweet concoction filled by a half shot of Jagermeister,
grenadine syrup and orange juice. The Illusion, another hot seller, with Midori, vodka, lemon, lime and sweet & sour, is a pale green cooling creation. Cocktails are not cheap. Most are priced between RM32 and RM38. The servings however are large and being more of a wine imbiber their house wine was more of a reasonable price and I soon switched anyway.
With the new Sand Bar, the Hard Rock Hotel is now the proud provider of four bars – each with rockin’ tunes, but distinct environments: Hard Rock Café – air conditioned, serving full meals, with a stage and live bands; the Lobby Bar – an open space also with live music in the evenings; The Shack – a swim up pool bar and; the Sand Bar – right on the beach.
Reason to visit:  “There’s no better way to end a day than a beer (wine, shot, cocktail) in hand and feet in the sand.”
