Afternoon Tea at Carcosa Seri Negara, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

There are many places around KL that that serve a pleasant afternoon tea, but in terms of atmosphere, Carcosa Seri Negara is one of the most elegant. Located in a refurbished colonial building, Carcosa is surrounded by manicured lawns and well groomed gardens. Both indoor and outdoor seating offer agreeable settings. The verandah is cooled by ceiling fans and proffers a serene green outlook. The drawing room is the cooler option with air conditioning, plush lounges and traditional English decor. White cloth dressed tables, fine china and genteel service extends the feeling of refinement and cultivated beauty. While the food is decent, consisting of a tiered platter of sweet and savoury treats, it’s not the predominant reason for a visit. This place is all about ambience. Dress elegantly and prepare your most polite topics of conversation to play your role in posturing a traditional English afternoon tea.

  1. Do you like the food there aside from the nice environment?

  2. Selection of teas nice. Coffee average. Food is good, but not worth raving about. This is definitely a place to come for the environment. If the ambience wasn't so spectacular I'd choose any number of other spots for afternoon tea.

  3. is it still pretty packed here for afternoon tea? i've only managed to come here on a saturday or two, but we're always forced to sit outside, since all the tables inside seem booked far in advance. there were some rumors a couple of years ago that carcosa would be closing permanently, but it's a relief that it hasn't. this place is quite a treasure, right 😀

  4. what price you were paying for the afternoon tea?

    • I'm not sure what they are charging these days. Best to give them a call to get the latest prices. I think we paid around RM 70… but don't quote me on that. 🙂
