Thai restaurants in Kuala Lumpur

Chef Kenny Loh, My Elephant, Kuala Lumpur

What do you do and how did you get into the industry?
I’ve always been curious and experimental with food since a young age; and I LOVE to eat. I pursued my dream of becoming a chef by attending a cooking school for one year. After I graduated, James, my cousin and one of the co-founders of myELEPHANT had just opened the Thai restaurant. I was invited to join the myELEPHANT family, and I’ve now been with them for seven years.

Share with us an interesting story from behind the scenes.
There are many! The most memorable one would be when I first started my career at myELEPHANT in 2008, I went through two years of tough and intensive training. On very tense days, woks, chopping boards, and pots would fly across the kitchen! I think I’m lucky to have survived without severe injury 😉
What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is when I get to explore and cook new dishes. Being able to receive good reviews for my creation also gives me a sense of satisfaction and encourages me to work even harder.
What’s your personal favourite meal/ drink at My Elephant?
Without hesitation, my personal favourite dish at myELEPHANT is the Green Curry. As for my favourite drink, it’s the Pandan Cooler.
The perfect day off would be…
… a weekend when I can spend time with my family and loved ones. Besides that, it would also be a day for me to exercise to keep myself fit and healthy.
What do you do for fun?
When I’m not working, I am exercising. I jog, lift weights and play badminton to relax on my down time.
What’s your favourite food and wine pairing?
I love to eat all sorts of food! I find that tasting different foods gives me inspiration for new dishes. But my all-time favourite would have to be a good piece of steak. I like my 10 oz steak to be prepared rare, accompanied by a glass of red wine.
