Spasso Milano, Straits Quay, Penang, Italian, pizza, pasta, risotto, wine, best restaurantChecking out of Penang we returned to an old favourite, Spasso Milano, for thin crust pizzas and marina views. Don’t worry there was much Penang cuisine in between, assam laksa, char kway teow and Hokkien Mee thanks to some fine recommendations by fellow foodies, but sometimes comfort food (with no risk of tummy bug) is necessary for longer stays. Not willing to risk the runs on a long journey home, Spasso Milano was a fine finish to an amalgamation of East meets West both on the streets and in elegant dining establishments on the island.
Tired of my
questions about what goes into the making of Chef Felice’s thin crust pizza, they finally let The Yum List into the kitchen to have a whirl. Harder than it looks, you can see our attempts on a short video clip here. Not willing to wait the results of our efforts, we ordered some other dishes just to be safe. The Asparagus Cappuccino kept company with a giant focaccia slice grilled with a little butter and garlic. This smooth creamy soup, tasting of earthy mushrooms, was aerated and feathery. Risotto is a hot seller at Spasso Milano and as such we ordered two. The Asparagus and Prawn Risotto and the Mushroom and Truffle Risotto. Fresh wholesome ingredients naturally flavoured these dishes with not a grain of rice left in either bowl. Hubby couldn’t resist ordering the Chicken Saltimbocca with Taleggio Cheese Sauce and was pleased when two golden breasts appeared in a light sunshine hued sauce with pasta spirals sharing the plate.

With the heat of the day we chose to dine inside on this occasion. A pleasant interior and views of the chefs working around the pizza oven were in-house entertainment. We hear that Chef Felice might be persuaded to open up Sundays for kids to have a try at making their own pizza. 1. gosh, i think you've traveled through the malaysian peninsula this year more times than many of us do in five years! but it's always nice to see a post on spasso milano penang, and i can envision enjoying some risotto here someday 😀

  2. Anything with Truffles work for me. In fact, just tried Green Peas infused with Truffles Oil. I hate peas & the oil works like magic. Would certainly love to indulge in the Truffles Risotto above.

  3. That risotto looks so creamy and delicious. I will have to see if Chef can be persuaded to have a kids pizza class and let me tag along.
