Elegant and spacious rooms. Look closely at the feet of the bathtub – a classic design from the 60s, the era in which the family mansion was first taken over and turned into a successful business hotel.
Being only 54 rooms, this boutique hotel has little need for enormous facilities. The gym and infinity pool though are in excellent condition and a popular spot to pass the warm afternoon.
The Spa Village is one of the best, if not the best spas I’ve visited in Asia.
One of the highlights of a stay at the Majestic Malacca is a complimentary historical tour with the walking Peranakan encyclopaedia, Choo. Besides a wealth of knowledge of the area, Choo’s sharp wit will keep you interested and on your toes the whole journey.

YTL’s Majestic Malacca, considered a semi- resort, is a clean cool and classy sidestep from the smoldering cacophonous bustle of the busy Peranakan tourist streets. Step inside, leaving the bedlam behind you and be greeted with skillful service and heritage decor. The mansion, previously owned by the wealthy Leong family, was turned into a business hotel in the 60s and then left abandoned for nearly 20 years before YTL took over. Refurbishing the building to maintain the fundamental design, a stylish interior is accomplished with original porcelain tile flooring, antiques, colourful ceramics and dark wood furnishings. Staff wearing traditional baba nyonya clothes paired with the colonial high ceilinged lobby transports you to a time gone past.
With only 54 rooms, the Majestic Malacca is classed as a boutique hotel. A 15 minute walk from the busy Jonker St. this quieter location has a much higher chance of giving you a peaceful night’s sleep than other accommodation options further in town. All rooms face the river and are fully equipped with modern amenities, elegant furnishings and accessorized with special touches such as bath salts and magazines. The bathtub is big enough for a relaxing soak for two and the sliding doors accord more or less privacy as desired. The quality of the bedding might make you wish you lived in the hotel rather than your own home and the additional details the staff pay attention to will make you want to lengthen your stay. Resident historical expert, Choo, provides another gratuitous service not to be missed. Follow her on a two hour walking tour filled with interesting facts, opinions and humorous pieces of information. Be led along the river walkway, through various side streets and end up in Jonker St. just in time for lunch (10am departure) or dinner (5pm departure). Upon return to the hotel refresh with a cold drink at the hotel bar and benefit from 50% discount on beers and spirits. Not yet done with playing tourist? The entrance to the river cruise is just across the road, a highly recommended and inexpensive activity best done in the evening. The Jonker Street night market (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) is a walk away, along with the rest of the historical centre such as Harmony Street (so named because there is a mosque, temple and church all in the one strip) and Hireen Street where you’ll find the Baba Nyonya Museum, traditional shops and restaurants.
Although there is much to keep you busy in Malacca, the Majestic presents entertainment enough to have you pondering the thought of not leaving the hotel at all. An infinity pool and gym keeps the active busy for a good few hours, while the Spa Village, is just heavenly (worthy of its own post coming soon). The Mansion provides a delicious place to dine and the rooms are so stylish and comfortable that you just might decide not to leave.
Without doubt the Majestic Malacca is a classy experience for which you’d expect to pay. They do however have special packages for Malaysian and Singaporean residents and expatriates that include breakfast, lunch and dinner for two with the room. A hotel of this standard sees weekends book up quickly, so it’s best to make a reservation or try a stay during the week.
Reason to visit: Stylish peaceful haven, with full facilities and excellent service, in the midst of a popular tourist location, only a two hour drive from KL. Exemplary spa.

i wonder if they have pineapple jam tarts stashed away somewhere in the majestic! those are my favorite malaccan tidbit 😀
No pineapple tarts during this stay but there were perhaps 6 or 7 different types of sweets in the lobby including some very interesting preserved olives.
We stayed there last week and they served them during breakfast, yum!
The Majestic Malacca is really beautiful but I still can't pull myself to pay so much for a night. Maybe one day… =D
The resident's package helps with all of your meals included. It's so beautiful there is hardly any desire to leave the hotel.
