Spasso Milano brings authentic northern Italian recipes to Penang in al fresco dining by the marina or in cool contemporary indoors. Heading up this feat is the jovial Chef Felice Matinelli from Milano. After running his own successful restaurant in Italy for 15 years before hitting the international circuit with the Maldives and Thailand, he now travels between Penang and KL delighting both city slickers and island hoppers with authentic Italian dishes.

Expect to see quality ingredients combined simply to produce honest wholesome home style cooking. Lightly cooked, lionizing fresh herbs and smartly presented the legitimacy of each recipe is uncompromised. Management at Spasso Milano see their role as educating their patrons about classic Italian cuisine. To this point they have done well not to kow tow to commercialization or localization of authentic recipes. Thin crispy wood fired pizzas with and without tomato sauces, flavoured by fresh herbs and al dente pasta are two examples of non negotiable standards. (Of course they’re happy to meet your requests, however if you don’t ask, expect a dish just as you would see in Italy). But genuine and appetizing cookery is not the only reason to visit Spasso Milano.
Both the location and menu are adept for taking pleasure in a glass or three of Italian wine. Sheltered from the heat indoors, appreciate a rich red, or basking in the sun outside by the seascape, refresh with a cold light white. We savoured a San Angelo Pinot Grigio Toscana Banfi 2010 and found it to be an easy drinking wine with a clean rich refreshing finish and a vibrant fruity aroma.
A dapper location, felicitous wine list and food from the heart, Spasso Milano awaits you.
